Wood Producers Association
The Private Wood Producers Association of Southern New Brunswick was formed in 1964, by the late Canon William E Hart and other wood producers in the area. Their objectives were to help wood producers receive a fair price for their forest products, promote good forest management and encourage the production of quality forest products from private woodlots.
Wood Co-operative: Join Here!!
The SNB Wood Co-operative Limited was formed in 1974 to become the business arm of the Wood Producers Association. The Co-op obtained contracts and bought forest products from its members to be resold to industries. By combining the many small volumes of individual woodlot owners in a single larger volume, the Co-op was able to negotiate better prices for its members.
Any interested person may join the Co-op upon approval of the Board of Directors. Today, the Co-op has over 1 655 members and is managed by a Board of nine directors.
In 1986, the Co-op built a new office just south-west of Sussex, off Highway No. 1. on the Drurys Cove Road.
Marketing Board
SNB Forest Products Marketing Board was formed in 1979. It represents over 6 600 private woodlot owners, and replaces the functions of the original Association.
Every person who owns or controls a private woodlot of 25 acres or more is legally considered to be a woodlot owner. Every woodlot owner has a vote in the business of the Board at the annual meeting and in the election of directors at local meetings.
The Marketing Board has legal powers to negotiate the terms of sale of forest products. It represents the owners of approximately 1 000 000 acres of forest land in the Counties of Albert, Kings, Queens, Saint John, and the parish of Salisbury in Westmorland County.
The Marketing
Board is divided
into seven zones. There are 60 Directors. To give fair
representation
to all woodlot owners, one director from each zone is elected to the
Executive
Committee along with two at large being elected at the annual meeting
for
a total of nine. This Executive Committee meets on a monthly
basis.
Full Board meetings are held three to four times a year. Public
meetings
are held twice a year in each zone.
