Welcome to the SFM Department

SNB’s Sustainable Forest Management Department is where all of our woodlot and forest management services are coordinated. Our foresters and technicians have a diverse range of professional training / skills and are constantly kept abreast of the latest developments and knowledge of the industry through continuing education and training. Collectively, our team of field staff has in excess of 150 years of forestry related experience.

We are committed to providing land owners with the best possible services in order to help them realize the maximum sustainable value from their woodlot resources.

Private Woodlot Silviculture Program - 2010

Silviculture activities are well underway here in the SNB region. Field staff are busy meeting with woodlot owners and silviculture contractors to ensure everybody has lots of work lined up. Funding levels are once again at the 90% level for 2010. Our total budget for the SNB region is approximately $1.6 million and is being provided through the NB Department of Natural Resources and ACOA. We are expecting to carry out approximately 1200 hectares of pre-commercial thinning and 350 hectares of planting this year.

If you would like to participate in the silviculture program, please contact our office.  For a list of the activities funded through the silviculture program and the assistance rates for each, click here.

SNB Fund Activities - 2010

SNB will continue to provide woodlot owners with financial assistance for a wide variety alternative harvesting treatments during 2010. With these activities financed by forest management levies, budgets will be a bit reduced compared to previous years as a result of lower sales. If you are interested in participating in these programs, please contact the office. If you would like more detailed description of these treatments, please click here

The two main activities that are funded include pre-commercial thinning and reforestation, and related treatments.  For a complete description of all treatments and their criteria, click [Here]. Land Management Sevices (LMS) The Land Management Program was initially designed for non-resident woodlot owners, but we have found that as many or more resident owners are participating in the program.  The general principle is that SNB will act as the owner’s agent by preparing a management plan for the woodlot and then implementing it.
